Sónar will celebrate it’s 26th anniversary this July!

Sónar will take place on 18, 19, 20 JULY 2019

The first time I went to Sónar was in 2010 and I remember it well. The Chemical Brothers were headlining and Sandwell District closed the whole festival with a thumping industrial techno set. There was an arena full of ravers going to town with their dance moves vibing to an atmosphere of absolute euphoria that whispered: “we are all in this together”. In fact, this was the first time I had been to Barcelona and it was then where I realised that I have to live in this city one day…. which is now a reality. Thanks Sónar 2010 for that life-changing insight!

Every year, for 1 weekend in the summer, usually in June however this year in July, Barcelona is filled with dedicated electronic music fans who descend on the sexy seaside city to dance some carefree days away under the beautiful sun filled blue skies at Sónar festival.

Sónar is Barcelona’s international festival of advanced music and congress of technology and creativity and is one of the city’s most well known annual cultural events which this year, will celebrate its 26th edition. Since the first event in 1994, the festival has become a staple go to global gathering for clubbers, ravers and electronic music enthusiasts from all over the world and as the year’s pass, it’s only getting bigger and bigger.

Sónar is split into 2 parts, Sónar Day and Sónar Night and this year, the lineup is looking especially ridiculous and will certainly not disappoint. Get ready for performances from Four Tet, DJ Seinfeld, Daphni, Underworld, Dj Tennis, Red Axes, Mall Grab, Arca, DJ Koze, Erol Alkan, Amelie Lens, Kaytranada, Vince Staples, Holly Herndon, Daniel Avery, Peggy Gou, Palms Trax,  Dixon, Maya Jane Coles, Actress, Skepta, Floating Points and Disclosure alongside many more big names. Unlike other big music festivals, Sónar does not take place on a field, or a farm or by a lake. It is a pure city festival, utilizing 2 big event venues in Barcelona. Sónar by Day will take place at Fira Montjuïc de Barcelona and Sónar by Night will be at the Gran Via de L’Hospitalet. This is great because by choosing to come to Sónar you will not only be able to enjoy this amazing music festival but also explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Barcelona. Find out more information about transportation to and from Sónar here.

Sónar is more than just a pure music event. Since its creation, it has established some important values which are defined by the connection between technology and creativity. Since 2013, the team have set up a fringe project called, Sónar+D, which is an international congress that explores how creativity is changing our present and imagining new futures. Sónar+D runs in collaboration with researchers, innovators and business leaders and involves many leading artists, creative technologists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, thinkers, scientists and entrepreneurs who participate in a “carefully commissioned program” and network in a very inspirational atmosphere.
