The electronic year is built for many of us around two of the most influential events on the global scale.
On the one hand, the summery vibe of Sonar festival in Barcelona, which we followed thanks to the work of Armo (view more); on the other, we have the massive Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), which over time has established itself as probably the most relevant electronic music conference of the year.
For years now, Clubber Confession has established a partnership with ADE, allowing us to follow both the business side of this event as well as the partying and more musical oriented moments of the week. Being right in the middle of the summer, it might seem too early to start thinking about ADE, which is coming only in October – from the 16th until the 20th – but rest assured that the organisers have started to plan it a long ago. Now we are able to give you the first details, so get ready! It is now time to think ahead and be prepared.
Just like every year, ADE will have two sides: ADE by Day (Conference & Festival), ADE by Night (Festival). During the day, the best elements of electronic music culture will be celebrated, through art, film, gear demonstrations, live performances, photography and technology events all over Amsterdam. At the centre of the conference programme will be the DeLaMar Theater where – from Wednesday through till Friday – here you will have the opportunity to explore the main conference ADE Pro and tracks ADE Green & TECH.
On the other side of the street, at Melkweg one can visit ADE Beats, focused on hip-hop, bass and beats, the ADE University and other activities can be found within walking distance of the Leidseplein area, such as the ADE Hackathon or the ADE Guesthouse.
Although throughout the entire day you will be able to find smaller events and music all around the city, at night the party will get way more serious. Around 140 different venues, clubs, smaller and cosy venues, huge locations such as Gashouder, hystorical clubs like Melkweg or De Marktkantine, but also concert halls and stadiums, or ‘one-off’ locations such as museums and the Amsterdam Central Station. The full line up will be announced soon, last year around 2500 artists performed over the week, and some events are rising on the surface already, so make sure to check the website for updates. ADE is also a collaborative event, and anyone might have the opportunity of a lifetime by working with them. Examples would be the chance for innovative companies to win a spot in the finals on the main stage of the DeLaMar Theater during ADE TECH on Thursday, October 17th. Startups or established companies can submit their ideas on innovative, cutting edge projects in the field of music and live technology. Culture is also a big part of this edition and the organization is trying to find out ideas and projects to support diversity in the dance music industry and community. Artists, makers, and creatives as well as (cultural) venues, art spaces can submit their ideas on participating in this year’s ADE, in support of the inclusive nature of dance culture.
As for the Conference, some names have emerged already. From the keynotes to be given by SoundCloud’s Lisa Ellis and Pip Rush Jansen of Arcadia Spectacular, AEG Studios’ Raymond Roker, tech legend Roger Linn at MusicTalks, Amazon CTO Dr. Werner Vogels at ADE TECH and Hannah Wants.
