Sónar+D will back for its 7th edition from 17th – 20th July 2019
With just over 1 month to go, the city of Barcelona is getting itself ready once again for one of its biggest annual electronic music events, Sónar festival! With tickets still on sale and a line up that is looking absolutely massive, there are still opportunities for you to get involved and join this amazing party next month. But let’s not forget, for some time now, Sónar has been more than just a music festival where you can dance the days and nights away. It is also a technological convention where you can learn about the future of audiovisual experiences at Sónar+D.
Sónar+D, takes place during the same time as the main Sónar festival (17th and 20th July) and is an international congress that explores how technology is changing our present and how our creative abilities will evolve in the future. The event has run since 2013 and brings together researchers, innovators and business leaders alongside many leading artists, musicians, film-makers, designers and entrepreneurs to take part in an original programme of exhibitions, workshops, round tables and panels.
The convention will feature more than 100 activities and will play host to over 200 artists, technologists and creators. It will also include a number of worldwide experts such as Daito Manabe, Yukiyasu Kamitani, Holly Herndon, Mat Dryhurst and Libby Heaney amongst others who will showcase new technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing and machine learning demonstrating how they can be applied to the arts.
This year is quite a special one for Sónar+D as it will partner with 4YFN (4 Years From Now), the innovation platform of MWC (Mobile World Congress) to launch the Startup Hub. This new cutting edge initiative is aimed at connecting start-ups, investors and companies that are grounded in the global creative industry to network with one another and take part in some specific topic related training sessions. The new Startup Hub initiative is supported by organisations like Factory Berlin, Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals, Barcelona Activa by Ajuntament de Barcelona, Barcelona Tech City, ICEX and Red.es. Sónar+D’s 2019 edition expects more than 20,000 attendees and nearly 5,000 professionals from 2,100 companies and 60 countries. Moreover, it will expand Sónar festivals music program with a number of extra activities including tech-shows such as MEDIAPRO, the dome dedicated to fulldome Sónarual works, futuristic installations entitled “SónarSpoiler” by Absolut and “Onionlab presented by Desigual in Beta” to name a few. It really seems like the right place to be if you are into your tech, your tunes, your productions and if you are the type of person who wants to learn about the future of sound and visual effects in the company of a like-minded crowd.
